Research interests

Basic research :

·         Structural and functional studies of Photosystem II from higher plants;

·         Mechanisms of photoprotection and Non-Photochemical Quenching (NPQ) in higher plants;

·         Mechanisms of S-layer-mediated photoprotection and carotenoid-mediated photoprotection  in radio-, thermo-, and halo-extremophile bacteria;

·         Structural and functional studies of bacterial S-layers;

·         Role of amino acids in rhizobia attraction during early stages of nodulation.

Applied Research:

·         Development and implementation of biochemical techniques and methods for industrial production and applications of bacterial S-layers and bacterial carotenoids.

 

Education and scientific career:

2018-present - Group leader at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Department of Plant Physiology,  Warsaw (Poland).

Project: “Structural and functional characterization of SlpA the main S-layer protein of Deinococcus radiodurans”.

Secondary projects: “Structural characterization of several Photosystem II subtypes isolated from Nicotiana tabacum”.

2017 - Italian National habilitation for positions of associated professor in Plant Physiology.

2015-2016 - Independent researcher and Junior professor position in Plant Physiology at the University of Cagliari (Department Life and Environmental Sciences ), Cagliari (Italy).

Projects:“Three dimensional crystallization and X-ray diffraction analysis of  Photosystem II crystals from several transplastomic strains of Nicotiana tabacum” and “Structural studies of the surface-layer protein complexes from the radio-resistant bacterium Deinococcus radiodurans”.
